COASTER 30th Anniversary Celebration

On February 27, 1995, the COASTER commuter rail service commenced with six morning trains and six evening trains. Thirty years later, more than 190 trains operate each week taking passengers along the coastal corridor. The COASTER takes 30 daily trips Monday through Friday (with an additional two on Fridays), 22 daily trips on Saturdays, and 18 daily trips on Sundays year-round.

COASTER provides a reliable transportation service for residents and visitors within San Diego County, alleviating congestion on the surrounding roadways. In 2025, North County Transit District is celebrating COASTER’s 30th anniversary.
