The fiesta begins this weekend! Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.

While it’s not Mexico’s Independence Day, it’s a significant event in Mexican history and is celebrated widely in the United States. In the U.S., Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a broader celebration of Mexican culture and heritage.

Where to Celebrate in North County

  • Ride COASTER to Santa Fe Depot and connect with MTS Greenline to Cinco de Mayo in the Gaslamp at Gaslamp Quarter located at 5th and Market on Saturday, May 3. This block party is FREE, in the heart of San Diego, and will be packed with live music, dancing, and festive fun for all ages. 

 

  • Ride COASTER to the Old Town Transit Center to Fiesta Cinco de Mayo in Old Town San Diego on Saturday, May 3 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. A celebration filled with food, drink specials, and family-centered activities. The event is FREE and open to the public to allow guests to experience the Mexican culture in a festive and family-friendly setting.  

 

  • Ride BREEZE 388 to Valley Center Rd and Calle De Vista for a short walk to The Country Trader Cinco de Mayo Celebration on Saturday, May 3 at 1 p.m. Join the Lincoln Club’s partner organization, the Latino American Political Association, for their annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration featuring tacos, margaritas, mariachis and more.
