North County Transit District (NCTD) is responsible for the maintenance of the railroad and development of a Transit Asset Management Plan.

The following Priority Projects are consistent with and included in several project planning and prioritization efforts for passenger and freight operations on the Los Angeles-San Diego- San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN) corridor such as the LOSSAN Optimization Study, the BNSF and NCTD Pathing Study, and the Supporting Environmental and Community Advancement and National Security (SEACANS) Program of Projects.

Eastbrook to Shell Double Track

Replacement of San Luis Rey River bridge with a new double track bridge

  • Mitigates impacts of sea level rise
  • Current bridge has a slow order

0.6 miles of new double track

  • Enhances capacity to accommodate planned passenger and freight services increases


Sorrento to Miramar Phase 2

Track realignment and straightening
