FREE RIDES ON NCTD TO COMMEMORATE ROSA PARKS’ BIRTHDAY

All NCTD Transit Modes FREE
TOMORROW, February 4 – “Transit Equity Day”

Oceanside, CA – Transit Equity Day was first celebrated in select areas of the nation in 2018 to commemorate Rosa Parks’ birthday on February 4. This year, NCTD will be participating for the first time in Transit Equity Day by offering free rides on all modes tomorrow, February 4th – COASTER, BREEZE, SPRINTER, FLEX and LIFT – free for the entire day.

“Commemorating Ms. Parks’ birthday by offering free rides highlights the need to ensure equitable access to public transportation,” said Matthew O. Tucker, NCTD Executive Director. “Decades after Ms. Parks’ bold decision, we must continue to advocate for accessible, reliable, and affordable public transportation for all.”

In 1955, Rosa Parks was riding home from a long day at work by bus when she refused to give up her seat to white riders so they could sit down. The actions of the 42-year-old activist invigorated the struggle for racial equality.

Free rides on Saturday, February 4, 2023, apply to NCTD modes of transportation only and do not include transfers to Metropolitan Transit System (MTS), or AMTRAK Rail 2 Rail services.
