Service Alerts

Stay in the Know

The following are scheduled service alerts, detours and closures for all of NCTD’s transit system.

For live updates follow us on Twitter @NCTD_Alerts

NCTD and SANDAG are working to stabilize portions of the coastal bluffs in Del Mar. There are no anticipated impacts to the COASTER schedule and operations.

The project protects an integral part of the 351-mile Los Angeles – San Diego – San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN) rail corridor and is a vital link for passenger and freight rail services within San Diego County. Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization is an ongoing, multiphase effort to maintain a stable track bed along the coastal bluffs and protect the railroad from erosion, landslides, and seismic events.

To facilitate the stabilization efforts, SANDAG’s contractor will utilize scheduled Absolute Work Windows (AWW) on select Sunday and Monday nights from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Check our service alerts page and follow @NCTD_Alerts on X (Twitter) for the latest AWW updates. The project is expected to be completed in late 2026.

For more information visit SANDAG.org.

For the current COASTER schedule please visit: Schedules – North County Transit District (gonctd.com)

For AMTRAK scheduling and operational information, please visit Train Schedules and Service Information | Pacific Surfliner.

An Absolute Work Window (AWW) or coastal rail closure means there will be no COASTER or Amtrak service between Oceanside Transit Center and Santa Fe Depot. Please plan ahead to take other forms of transportation during this service interruption. There will be no replacement bus service connecting COASTER station stops. Alternatives for passengers who normally use the COASTER include BREEZE bus Route 101 or MTS connections.

Dates for rail corridor closures are chosen in order to reduce operational and community impacts. The work being done is necessary in order to improve California’s infrastructure. The rail will re-open for regularly scheduled COASTER and all other rail service in time for the morning commute on Monday. Please note that trains may be delayed up to fifteen minutes on this day.

The following are the currently scheduled weekend dates for 2024-2025 rail closures.

Dates are tentative and may change at any time due to weather constraints or construction needs.

Service Management

We work hard to provide efficient, effective, and timely services for our customers. Unfortunately, delays happen, and it can be a delicate balance of how we utilize our resources to get the schedule back on time and deliver our passengers where they need to go. When there are delays, we understand that you may feel like you are in
the dark, with little information and a lot of time spent waiting for something to happen. View NCTD’s service management philosophy and processes in this section to see what we’re doing to get your commute back on track.
