The North County Transit – San Diego Railroad will be extending the existing at-grade pedestrian crossing at the south end of the Oceanside Transit Center, SPRINTER platform to connect to the COASTER Platform 3 walkway.

The work will include modifications to the ADA ramps, installation of pedestrian gates on either side of the crossing, and improved safety measures.

Status and Timeline

Design: 2022-2024

Construction Timeline: August – December 2025

Construction work is expected to begin Monday, August 4, 2025, and is anticipated to take approximately five months to complete.

To minimize the disruptions to the SPRINTER service, the majority of the project work will be conducted between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., Monday through Friday. Occasionally, some daytime work will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Cost and Funding

$2.6 million State and Federal Funding

Project Benefits

The project reduces the length of time it takes to walk to the COASTER platform from the Oceanside Transit Center parking lot.

In addition, safety measures will be improved through the inclusion of crossing warning devices and pedestrian gates.

What to Expect

There will be loud construction equipment noise, including the use of backup alarms, and bright lights during this time. The contractor will aim lights as necessary to complete the work while not directing excessive light towards adjacent homes.

The contractor will be entering the work limits from the south parking lot onto Railroad Property right-of-way (ROW). Some equipment may be stored within the Railroad Property ROW the OTC south parking lot. Dust mitigation, including the use of a water truck will be implemented for the duration of the project.
