Transit Oriented Development

Transit Oriented Development
blue box

NCTD has initiated a process to revitalize and reimagine 11 transit stations throughout North County, including Carlsbad, Escondido, Oceanside, San Marcos and Vista.

The projects are considered transit-oriented development, meaning they include housing, retail, businesses and other community amenities like parks, trails and gathering spaces located within 0.5 miles of transportation hubs, such as train or bus stations.

These projects are intended to improve the transit experience and mobility system by connecting all North County residents and visitors to communities.

What to Expect

NCTD is working with private developers, North County cities and the community to create the vision and develop conceptual plans for each individual site, which are all at various stages of development in the planning and design process.

We are committed to developing facilities that benefit the community as well as sustain and promote both current and future transportation services. Through responsible development adjacent to transit, NCTD aims to achieve the maximum return on public investment by working in partnership with the community to encourage innovation and creativity. We welcome community feedback and aim to ensure safe, accessible project designs while prioritizing sustainability and community character.

Stay in Touch

We encourage you to get involved in the process. If you’re interested in a specific project or would like to include community improvements such as parks, trails and gathering spaces in the project plans, sign up for alerts. Each project team will send updates about upcoming public meetings or how to provide input. For more information, visit the project pages below or contact us by using one of the following methods.
