Become a Volunteer Transit Ambassador

Test North County Transit District (NCTD) is seeking applicants for volunteer Transit Ambassadors (TAs).

The Transit Ambassador Program runs on a semi-annual basis, from July through January, and each program lasts for a year.

Our TAs take to the rails and the road on NCTD services helping passengers find their way around the transit system. Ambassadors also help at special events, including educating people about the transit system at street fairs and other venues.

Application Process

Requirements

Transit Ambassadors should:

  • Have a basic understanding of NCTD and a willingness to learn more about the system
  • Know about nearby tourist destinations in San Diego County
  • Be comfortable conversing with strangers, and at times, dealing with challenging interpersonal situations

Transit Ambassadors must commit to volunteering at least three days per month for the duration of the program. This commitment includes attending a special event, a completed route round-trip ride on an NCTD mode, or other activity approved by the Transit Ambassador Coordinator.

Transit Ambassadors also must attend at least one of the two training meetings provided during the six-month period to remain in the program.

Training

Transit Ambassadors accepted into the program must attend a one-day required training. This training will cover applicable agency policies, general overview information about the transit agency, and (time permitting) a field trip on NCTD transit. Where possible, Transit Ambassadors continue to learn by teaming up with other TAs with greater experience, on initial assignments.

Additional Information

To support Transit Ambassador access to events and assignments, TAs will receive complimentary transit passes, as appropriate.

Transit Ambassadors may be invited to NCTD’s annual employee events, such as appreciation day, and holiday party, as those may be scheduled.

Current Transit Ambassadors who successfully complete the program are given priority consideration to continue on in the subsequent program.

Based on operational needs, if TAs are accepted into the program mid-year, their assignment will still conclude at the end of that year’s cycle.

Transit Ambassador Guidelines
